Danish Forestry Extension was established as an international consultancy service in 1992. Based on the skills of more than 65 forestry advisers and their now 100-year-old parent organisation, which has practised extension work among Danish forest owners based on participatory principles since 1904.

DFE is a nationwide consultancy service in forestry and other land-use issues. It has 7 local branches. The main task of each of these units is to provide its members - the forest owners - with a capable administration and practical advice. DFE staff advise members on when and how to use contractors, and they offer to organise the buying and selling of commodities related to forestry.

More than 25% of the forest owners in Denmark have chosen DFE to help them manage their forests.

DFE is owned and controlled by the forest owners, most of whom are also farmers.

DFE has a professional staff of qualified foresters.
