Back to school – returning back to the classroom after the earthquake

WCN together with Creative Academy, one of the EcoSmart Schools, have made efforts to get some normality into students' lives after the devistating earthquakes in Nepal

The EcoSmart Schools Program is designed and implemented by WCN. To become a certified eco-smart school, the school must participate in a set of hands-on environmental programs and year-round guidelines in order for the school to become an environmentally responsible model school. One of the main efforts include becoming a “Zero Waste School” through activities and learnings about littering, waste segregation, 3 Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and composting.

Creative Academy is one of the schools in Kathmandu valley that has been partly damaged. The school is currently building a new building and has establishing temporary classrooms. Students attend classes in shifts, where half attend school in the morning and the other half in the afternoon. WCN kickstarted the Eco School program at Creative Academy with several hands-on activities focused on learning about the environment with the students.
