Life School Center Dormitory Construction Kicks Off

The Life School Center has begun the construction of a dormitory where up to 25 guests of the center will be able to stay while attending conferences, trainings or other events that are taking place at LSC. Working together with the engineering consultancy SEED, the building has been designed in the spirit of the Life School Center, using low cost, low energy and locally produced building materials renewable energy systems, appropriate climatic design responses and sustainable ways of dealing with water and waste.

The concept of the LSC compound is not only to provide space for meetings and trainings; it is a teaching tool itself – as a demonstration center for sustainable design in a local context. The buildings and operation of the LSC itself function as a teaching tool guided by ecological and pedagogical considerations providing direct hands-on demonstrations.

Below are some of the pictures of the construction. The foundation has been excavated, about 11,000 compressed earth blocks have been produced and 30 cubic meters of boulders have been collected. Roof tile production has begun and LSC is coordinating with its consortium member the Terai Private Forest Development Association for bamboo harvesting. We will post more information as the construction progresses.
