Celebrating World Environment Day June 5th

On June 5th, our partners in Nepal and Mozambique celebrated World Environment Day.

World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Over the years, it has grown to be a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated by people in over 100 countries.

In Nepal, our partners WCN celebrated the day with the students of Ace School with outdoor activities under the theme butterflies. The students were taught about the butterfly and its importance for the environment. Life School Centre (LSC) participated in the celebrations in 16 different villages in Dhanusha district. Key resources persons from local community based organizations, who earlier this month had received training in climate change adaptation at LSC, passed their knowledge on in their communities on WED.  Other street events and corner speeches under the WED 2015 theme "Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care." were organized. In Mozambique, our partner ama planted trees and did outreach efforts to spread environmental awareness of the day.
